No More Programming

Seems like what Rukky has learnt through out his career life and then finally he is putting down the serious programming stuffs he learnt away. There will be sublime programming stuffs like Visual Basic and the life here is pretty slow.

Well, at least there are some funny ones being made though.

New Life Slow Pace

New life is a slow pace. That's enough said of the situation I am in right now.

Unlike the time when I was put into a fast pace working life, this time it seems that there are many unfinish business but no one seemed to be in rush to finish it. What a way to start my career.

Probation and Observation

Ever since the office has been doing some checks on laptop during office hours, Rukky has not a chance to try to blog his thoughts on work in the office.

Of course, now being under observation period, it seems they have given us new guys false hope that the managers can confirm us or put us under the company where he/she deemed it fit to do it. Of course, there is also an existing company policy where they are freezing the permanent position in the company.

Is this how it ends? Receiving 4 new offers right now and most of them are seductive to my eyes.

Senior Super Reply

You know that whenever as employees of a company, there is always a team lead. When we make mistakes and the team lead finds out, he will point out the mistake and then comes the forlorn lecture.

Now what about when the team lead or the project manager makes the mistake in his coding. What will become of it?

Here is an example of what my colleague faced and told me about it after many times being told by the team lead. So he decided to see what will be the team lead's response when his mistake was found out instead.

He just came back and located the bug committed by the team lead.
Here was his reply when he told his team lead about it.

Put Onto Observation

Looks like observation period has started and I do not have the Work at Home privilege. Seems to me that maybe it is a calling that this place is really not for me.

I think I have miss out one part in our conversation. As part of the 1 month observation period, please ensure that you are in office and I will be temporarily rejecting all your W@H request till further updates.

Seems to me I am under scrutiny.

Leaving the Company Letter

Dear Employer,

Thank you for the time you have taken to read this letter. I sincerely hope that it is my best interest to tell you that I have no qualms in sending in this letter.

First and foremost, I would like to thank you for accepting this letter ahead of all things and hoping that you will try to understand what you will read as we read further into this letter.

There is an individual in the team that degenerate the whole team and targeting us new ones. Expectant of a new individual to suddenly revolve themselves in the job scope seems crazy and hard without proper guidance and where expectancy is crazily high for a new person.

For most of the time, I am not interested in petty claims and false accuses as it is not my nature to be bothered about it but since coming into here, it has never stopped. With all due respect, you are great in leading us but due to some bad apples, I find that I can use my talent elsewhere since here I am limited to being an understudy to some of the employees here. Since the day of the so called mistake being pushed to me, I find that I do not trust anyone else anymore. Why trust when someone else wrongly written codes get passed down to me and then me getting the rap all because I modified a different code inside the module with no relevance to the code itself.

Well, furthermore, I doubt I want to work in this environment where I am just a contractual staff. That being said, getting older is what everyone goes through and being old and having a contractual job does not help in determining my future in this company. Believing that it is not just a coincidence, I have seen that many people here are competent in their Java programming skills which I find admiringly good. For me, master of one is great but I am a jack of all trades. In a team, you do not need only Master of One but people also with Jack of all Trades but as of now, I find that this team do not really need a Jack of all Trades kind of person.

It is to my understanding you are a very good employer but with bad apples around. This has made me conclude to this decision which I am sure you will understand.

Here was my scenario all the time working in this place.
I eat alone during lunch time (which is great as I can survive on my own without having a reliance on anyone)
I amuse myself (at least not a bothersome to the many people who needs attention from other people to be acknowledge)

I can assure you, there is not many people who are like me and I guessed this will be the last email or document I will be sending.

Farewell take care and may be we will cross roads once again, either as a competitor or in future employment in another company as long as we understand each another.

Seriously What Am I?

It seems that I am treated like someone new here. Maybe I should just look elsewhere. Beginning to doubt whether am I actually needed here. No point going to office when no work needed to be done and even things as simple as replacing certain .equals with the StringUtils equivalent needed permission.

Seriously, I have no reason to stay here. It is now time to look for job options in other places.

Wonder if IT city would be the next place to move to?

A scenario happened in office today, looks like there are people who really are monitoring what I do and where I am. I just found out about that and so it seems that it is the case.

This conversation was through office communicator. I now see what is happening. More reason to think this is not the best place for me.

Balding More and More in Office

It looks like the trend for programmers is they get bald faster than others. I have seen most of my seniors facing the same problem. What is happening?

Sadly, I am facing the same problem too. Is it time to shift to a more relaxing job? Worse still, I just found out that my senior is younger than me 3 years. The world is upside down and I am not feeling high and mighty right now which I should be.

Error Due to Another Developer Became Mine

So it seems that an error that was supposed to be not me became mine due to an earlier code error which was not written by me. Somehow the problem was due to a negligence in the code previously by another developer.

All because I was to do some simple modification to cater requirements that were not done previously, it is now my problem. Simply said, I think that I want to give up after awhile and perhaps distance myself from here.

Please be informed that the logic in earlier codes are not really correct and some are wrong, but at least they didn’t create this kind of problem. Otherwise how are we going to close our Testing exercise?

As I notice, the problems are coming in after I asked you to enhanced the registration module – to cater multiple account for one single debit card.

I’m not at here to blame anyone, not to seek for a perfect very professional code, but at least you have to test across when you have done any code change. This should be a mandatory action that everyone in the team should follow and I have highlighted this for so many times, during our team meeting, official/unofficial discussion…

I will set my own standard when I receive other people's code now. Never give me lousy basket coding.

Seems Like Time to Move On

Looks like time to move on to another different company once again.

Never really like working in a big company after emails come and go with everyone protecting their own security.

Will be looking towards more job opportunities on Jobstreet once again.

Persistent Senior Knocking Me Off

Looks like the office politics just started again. He CCed the messages with the manager. What a persistent senior to knock me off.

Please ensure your code retrofitted to other project does not contain compilation error. Why am I still seeing this type of mistake over and over and over again?

Please clean up your code.

I have already corrected this as early as 3pm today. The code was cleaned up so it shouldn’t be an issue this late. Of course, I will try to be more careful in the future.

Anyway for further changes to code and SQL, I will be posting them regularly here in email to inform the rest.

Then the reply came again to prove he is right again.

Regardless of when you have check in the source code, the minimal requirement before check-in into SVN is to ensure that should be and must be no compilation error. The first update you check in was at 12:07pm whereby after 3 hours later you only notice this problem?

Alas, nothing like that will actually knock me off. English is a very good language to kill of stones when you have a very good command of it.
So take this back.

It is my bad for leaving that line out as using winmerge to compare the codes between project 1 and project 2.

I did another check for both project 3 and project 2 after that to ensure all is well so that by the end of the day I won’t leave any errors, and I found a difference which I went to rectify it.

No response now whatsoever, but sure is hell funny when I read this person persistent shooting. What a way to start my day and sure is superbly hilarious. English? Aha... I use English to blast my English class teacher last time.

More Responsibility in Office

It looks like as time goes by, I was given more responsibility in the office. The option to work at home has also helped a lot as I get to spend my time at home with stuffs that I need to do and also office work.

It's convenience. It looks like though all those will go away when I would be assigned to help another department in their codes as they would be more inclined to punctuality and seriousness of not being around. There goes my flexibility.

In reverse, I would be learning more though.

Passing the Buck

Some people would not know what this term means. I believe not everyone even many does not understand what it means. Well, some people would say, did you catch the ball? In this time and place, I find that many colleagues and team members in this office environment have what you call, to cover your ass. Your own ass is important as long it does not affect you.

Every time a problem is found in a system, the emails will go flying here and there. It is mainly finding the fault of the problem and the cc and bcc to all the line managers, team leads and other so called prominent names.

Working in such an environment definitely is a strange and dangerous thing. How long would I last? Maybe not so long, I am definitely going to look for a better place to be.

Coca Cola Addiction??

Work has been up and down. I have finally gotten the hang of things in this MNC. One thing though is that I guessed it also made me start a new habit. I am now starting to drink Coca Cola constantly through out this week as the company is providing it. Is it an addiction?


It is still hard to determine it yet as I do not drink it all the time yet but only on a daily basis once or twice in a small cup. Will I become a Coca Cola/Coke addict in the future?

Career Advancement

This will be what it is. Will the future hold bright for me? Or is it bleak? Well, this will very much decide what should be done in order to achieve what needs to be achieved.  Of course work is never enjoyable here with the team members all sitting on their own and they are mainly not active in anything much.

Found out this place is meant for workaholics. So how will the chat with the lead lead and line manager will go later.

MNC really different from non-MNC

It is now the third month I am here in this office, learning to grasp and to adapt to the office environment. In here, everything is done black and white. It seems that when you send an email, it accounts as your safe and guarantee in case something was argued about. It is also a double edged sword, so when you wrote something declaring you have to do something. You will also need to keep with your word. If one didn’t then people will be able to use what you wrote and use it against you.

In this office environment, it had helped me to start writing more documentation, referring to notes and manuals; also it had helped me to be more outspoken and trying to learn newer things as time goes by.

Though sometimes I get a kick in the ass when some mistakes were discovered at a time I was not in office and then got mentioned about it, but so it seems it happened to almost everyone here. I just got to get used to this. Picking up skills on SVN, web services and interfaces has helped me in my work.

Unlike previous occasions, the environment here is also very serious. It is hard to find something funny to joke about at times. In my past 3 months working here, I have only eaten one lunch with my senior while the rest of the times I usually eat alone or with friends that works nearby. A loner to be exact but I am not complaining. Life just goes on.

Senior Laughs Like A Hyena

After a new beginning, I have been complaining more than usual. First and foremost, I got to say about the senior that is so called guiding me. The way he laughs, just seem to be like a small kid. This is how he laughs.

Please, you are of the male species and you laugh like that? Seriously everytime he does that I felt like grabbing his balls and make him yell like a real man.

Sad, sad fate for me to work here.

Senior Slack More Than Me

Do you know what? I find that my senior who was supposed to supervise me is basically another person that used to be me. Does that mean that he used to be like me? Kept slacking and always trying to find a way to get over something.

I appreciate his help at times but not when I was supposed to finish by the dateline. Looks like all things are now pending.

This is just so not good for me. Now working in a big company doesn't really help me much.

Of course the only exception is that I have someone else who is guiding me and trying to help me to convert into a permanent worker here. I need the perks.

Employer Fund Contribution Taken From Me

It looks like I was mistaken. Initially I thought I was earning and the company paid me according to what I was entitled and the employee fund on the employer side would be contributed by them.

Little did I know, that when dealing with such things, my salary (based on man days), the employer fund would subtract from my total salary per month too. That leaves me another 12% poorer from my salary. What a sad day for me. Just when I thought I had earn much.

Always remember to ask them about the employer contribution. This is such a waste.

What a Sucky Work Day

This is such a pain in the ass. I have to change codes again. I even have to change the workflow. I am someone who is new in this company but I have to do something which I am not even sure about. What flow? What nonsense?

Don’t think that everyone is an expert when they first come into the office. No one bothered even to brief and guide me along the codes. I have no problem coding, but asking me to do something out of codes, using XSL and stuffs which I haven’t even touch it before. Also after doing the hard part of creating the object class, I have to go and change it once again. What a sucky day!
